A dog takes the role of the title character in this drawing, casting the animal as a sly onlooker in the spirit of the old Peeping Tom legend, in which a townsman spies on Lady Godiva. The work is India ink over pencil on bristol board, a method common in mid-century magazine illustration, where artists roughed out a design in pencil and then inked the final lines for reproduction. Its 1965 publication date places it in a decade when cartoonists often used trained animals to satirize human behavior, and the catalog subjects of dogs, trained animals and voyeurism reflect that joke. The humor depends on the animal's sly pose and wide-eyed attention.
