A printed statement of the Prohibition party's principles, registered for copyright in September 1888, puts the party's central goal in plain view: banning the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages. The party had been founded in 1869 and fielded its own presidential candidate in 1888, when it set itself apart from the major parties mainly on temperance. The record links the piece to a name on an old shelflist card, Raabe, but that attribution is unverified, so the maker should be treated as uncertain. Campaign broadsides like this were common in the late nineteenth century, as third parties worked to spread their platforms to voters.
