A young woman holding a single rose appears on this April 1934 cover of Hearst's International Combined with Cosmopolitan, a New York magazine. The work is by Harrison Fisher, the illustrator known for idealized, fashionably dressed women, often called "Fisher girls," who appeared on magazine covers for decades. Its color reproduction shows the polished, glamour-focused style that defined popular cover illustration in the 1930s. The Library of Congress included the image in its 2002 exhibition *American Beauties: Drawings from the Golden Age of Illustration*.
