A tearful child and a kiss make this one of the more emotional appeals in Britain's wartime savings campaign. Its message is direct: parents who buy war savings certificates now will be thanked by their children later. Printed in 1917 by the London firm Eyre & Spottiswoode, the poster was part of an effort to draw small, steady investments from ordinary households to help pay for the war. Its reliance on sentiment rather than battle imagery was a common wartime tactic for winning over civilian readers.
