Published in New York around 1872, the lithograph *Look at papa* takes its title from a remark that suggests a scene of family life, and it is listed as number 4079 in Gale Research's catalog raisonné of the firm's work. Currier & Ives, the Nassau Street house that produced colorful lithographs in large numbers from the 1850s into the 1890s, sold its prints cheaply enough for ordinary households to collect them. Its subjects ranged from farm scenes and sporting events to domestic humor, reflecting everyday life of the period. Researchers can use the catalog number to compare this sheet with the many related prints the firm issued in the same decade.
