The record gives only the title Mayflower, and the Bain News Service recorded it without verification, so the subject is uncertain. The name has been borne by several vessels, from the 1620 ship that carried the Pilgrims to Plymouth to later sailing yachts and the steam yacht that served as a presidential vessel. The Bain collection, built by a news photo agency that worked mostly from about 1900 into the 1920s, often captured maritime and public events for newspaper use. Viewers should treat the identification as a starting point and check the negative's caption cards or the Library's catalog before relying on the vessel's identity.
