This group portrait of the Boston Red Sox, credited to photographer Geo. Dorrill and dated around 1943, shows a team photographed during the Second World War. Major League rosters were thinning as players entered military service, so team pictures from these years often mixed established regulars with reserves and newcomers. The print was registered for copyright by the Sporting News Publishing Company, the St. Louis baseball weekly that ran team photographs for its readers. The catalog title refers to 1944, while the date given is c1943, so the exact season is worth checking against the team's roster.
