Tremont Street at Hollis was a busy corner of Boston's theater district in the 1920s, and this 1927 ink drawing records the Metropolitan theater and Ye Wilbur theater standing side by side there. It survives as a working architectural document in the Library of Congress's collection of American architectural and engineering drawings. During that decade, downtown Boston houses were adding motion pictures to live stage shows, and drawings like this one were used to plan and build such venues. The fine ink linework preserves the design of a block that drew large crowds to the city's entertainment trade.
