Few posters from the war years put three presidents on one sheet, but this one does: Franklin D. Roosevelt appears alongside George Washington and Abraham Lincoln under the call to "Remember Pearl Harbor." The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 drew the United States into World War II, and wartime posters like this one used the memory of that surprise assault to urge Americans toward enlistment, bond purchases, and sacrifice. Pairing the sitting president with the nation's founder and its wartime leader was a deliberate way of linking the current fight to a long line of American struggle.
