Edna Wilson is shown holding a bow and arrow, a detail that gives this glass negative its only clear point of interest in the record. It belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, made by the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers from the early 1900s until the 1930s. The studio's negatives were often captioned in haste, so the sitter's name and the date come from the agency's own notes and have not been independently confirmed. Archery was a popular recreation for women in the early twentieth century, and portraits of this kind were often used to illustrate sports and leisure features.
