Unlike the posters around it, this item is a working drawing: ink plans for two Allentown theaters, the Orpheum at North 6th and Linden streets and the Rialto at Hamilton Street and North 10th. Dated 1928, when many American cities were building or remodeling houses for both vaudeville and the new motion pictures, such sheets guided builders and contractors in laying out seating, stages and entrances. The Library of Congress holds it in its architecture, design and engineering collections, where it documents how a Pennsylvania city fit its entertainment venues onto tight urban corners.
