Two theaters share this sheet: the Orpheum at North Sixth and Lindon streets and the Rialto at Hamilton and North Tenth streets, both in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Drawn in ink in 1928, it belongs to the Library of Congress's architectural and engineering drawings, a collection that preserves the working plans used in designing and building structures. In the late 1920s, movie houses and vaudeville theaters across American cities were becoming large, ornate buildings meant to draw crowds, so a sheet like this records how one city's entertainment district was being shaped. Its value lies in the technical detail that shows how these buildings were laid out on paper before they rose on the street.
