This glass negative records the bullet lodged in Theodore Roosevelt's chest after he was shot in Milwaukee in October 1912 by a would-be assassin. Campaigning as the Progressive candidate, he gave his speech before seeking treatment, since the folded manuscript and his metal spectacle case had slowed the round. Doctors judged the bullet too close to vital organs to remove safely, so it stayed in his body for the rest of his life. The title comes from caption data that has not been verified, so it is best read as the press's account of the case at the time.
