The record titles this glass negative simply "T. Roosevelt," a label the Bain News Service attached to its negatives and caption cards, though the catalog marks that title as unverified and gives no date. Theodore Roosevelt, president from 1901 to 1909, was one of the most photographed Americans of his time, which makes the attribution plausible but not confirmed. The Bain agency sold news pictures to newspapers in New York and elsewhere, and its plates from the early twentieth century show how press photography worked in that period.
