The Mall, the tree-lined promenade running through Central Park in Manhattan, is the setting for this harvest festival design. It was produced under the Federal Art Project in New York, part of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists during the Depression to make posters advertising public events, classes, and city recreation. Martin Weitzman's work was one of many such announcements, and the Library of Congress holds it in the WPA Poster Collection. Its autumn theme shows how the city used these posters to draw crowds to free community gatherings in public spaces.
