The only name attached to this negative is "Mrs. Horne," taken from the National Photo Company's sleeve, and that title is unverified, so the sitter's identity remains uncertain. The company was a Washington, D.C., studio that produced large numbers of glass negatives in the early twentieth century, recording local residents, streets and events. Glass plates of this age can develop streaks and blemishes as their coatings deteriorate, and the catalog notes that this one may show such damage. Its date, sometime between 1918 and 1928, places it in an era when glass plates were still common in commercial photography.
