Its title, "Blah, they'll soon forget him! He's only a hero!", gives the drawing a sour edge that is easy to miss at first glance. It ran in *Life* on June 16, 1927, less than a month after Charles Lindbergh landed near Paris, completing the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic. *Life* was then a general-interest humor weekly, not the photojournalism magazine it later became, so the cartoon reflects the wry, skeptical tone its readers expected. The record links it to Lindbergh's biography file, and its joke about fleeting public memory captures how quickly national adulation could turn into restlessness.
