The Bain News Service caption describes these women as suffragettes on their way to Boston, though the title is unverified and the record gives no date. The Bain agency was a New York photo service that sent photographers out to document the news of its day, and its glass negatives capture many parades, rallies, and travelers from the early twentieth century. Women campaigning for the vote often traveled between cities to speak and organize, so a group in transit fits the period's push for suffrage. Boston was a major center of that movement in New England, which makes the caption plausible even without a confirmed date.
