The Walden Breezes stand takes its name from Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts, which Henry David Thoreau made famous with his 1854 book *Walden*. The name may have been meant to suggest the pond's rural calm to a city crowd. The popcorn machine is worth a closer look, because commercial corn poppers spread through American concessions mostly in the later 1800s, which fits uneasily with the early-1800s label on this board.
