Addressed directly to college freshmen and sophomores, this 1942 Navy recruiting poster offered young men a way to keep their studies going while working toward a commission. McClelland Barclay, an illustrator known for his polished magazine work, designed it in the early years of American involvement in World War II, when the Navy needed officers in large numbers. The poster's appeal rested on the Navy's college-based officer training, which let students continue their education while preparing for service, and its bold color lithography was built to catch the eye of students on campus.
