Nathaniel Currier published this hand-colored lithograph, titled "The Boquet" in its record, in New York in 1845. It dates from the firm's early years, before Currier took James Merritt Ives into partnership in 1857. Flower subjects like this one appealed to middle-class buyers who wanted affordable color and decoration for their parlors. Because the color was added by hand after printing, individual sheets can differ noticeably in tone from one copy to the next.
