The caption on this glass negative gives only "R. Zanelli" as its title, and the Library of Congress notes that the name comes from unverified data on the negative or its caption card, so the subject's identity and the occasion remain uncertain. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers and magazines with pictures of people, events, and places in the early twentieth century. Its prints were often made quickly for news use, and many of the agency's glass plates are now valued for documenting daily life of that period.
