The caption on this glass negative gives the name Benno Moisewitsch, a spelling the Bain News Service used on its caption cards, and the Library of Congress notes that the title is unverified. The pianist Benno Moiseiwitsch, born in Odessa in 1890, built an international reputation for Romantic repertoire and later settled in Britain, so the portrait likely documents one of his concert tours or publicity visits. The Bain agency, a New York news photo service active from around 1900 into the 1930s, sent plates like this one to newspapers, so the image reflects how performers were presented to the public in that era. With no date recorded, the exact occasion remains uncertain.
