Clifford R. James's color mezzotint takes its composition from a painting by George Morland, the English artist who built his reputation on scenes of rural life in the late 1700s. The subjects assigned to the print, carts and wagons alongside a tavern, fit Morland's frequent focus on country people traveling to and from market. Published in London around 1929, the work is a modern reproduction of an earlier painting, but it keeps the feel of the 1790s. James's pencil signature on the print is worth noting when comparing it with the original.
