Few houses in New Orleans carry a name as recognizable as General Jackson's, a reference to Andrew Jackson, who led American forces during the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. This 1927 etching is signed with a monogram on the plate and again in pencil beneath it. It captures the old French Quarter architecture that drew many artists in the 1920s, when residents and visiting printmakers began to value its iron balconies and weathered brick. Architectural etchings from that decade are now prized as records of streets that have since changed.
