Airplane accidents are the subject of this 1917 lithograph, whose title, "Warning! Consider the possible consequences if you are careless in your work," turns a crash into a lesson for ordinary workers. Aviation was still new in the 1910s, and the war had made airplanes vital but fragile machines, with parts built in factories far from the front. The Canada Food Board, named as sponsor, was a wartime agency that urged careful production and conservation, and posters like this one carried that message to workers. Printed by the Britton & Latham firm, it shows how wartime propaganda used dramatic new technology to speak to everyday labor.
