Under the line "If you can't go across with a gun, come across with your part of the Red Cross war fund," this 1917 poster turns a call to military service into a call to give money. C. W. Love designed it as a color lithograph printed by the United States Printing Lithograph Company in New York, a common method for mass-producing posters at the time. The United States had entered the First World War that April, and the American Red Cross, which provided medical care, relief and supplies, depended heavily on public donations. The poster's subjects, which include war casualties and medical care, point to the wounded and sick these funds were meant to help.
