Few places captured the American countryside of the late nineteenth century as vividly as the fairground, and this 1890 lithograph takes that setting as its subject. The title, *At the Fair Grounds*, points to the county and state fairs where crowds gathered for exhibitions, livestock, and racing. Currier & Ives of New York was known for inexpensive, colorful lithographs that brought rural and sporting life into homes across the country. The print is catalogued in the firm's raisonné as number 0327, and it shows how popular prints portrayed leisure in the years before the automobile began to change such gatherings.
