Dated November 22, 1923, this glass negative is titled "Daughters of Confederacy," a label the National Photo Company applied, though the record marks it as unverified. The name points to the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a women's organization founded in 1894 to honor Confederate soldiers and preserve their memory. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., studio that documented public life in the capital in the early twentieth century. Streaks and blemishes may appear on the glass, a result of natural deterioration in its original coatings.
