Titled "Sold Out," this cartoon reproduces a drawing by Rollin Kirby, the New York World editorial cartoonist known for his sharp commentary on politics and finance. Its catalog tracings point to the stock exchange and to October 1929, the month the market collapsed on Black Thursday and Black Tuesday. Cartoons from that moment often used ticker tape, crowded brokerage offices, and anxious investors to show how quickly paper fortunes disappeared. Kirby's drawing is worth noticing as a record of how newspapers explained the crash to ordinary readers.
