Printed in 1918, this French poster carries the slogan "Ils combattent: Souscrivons," or "They fight: let us subscribe," and pairs its call with images of soldiers and flags. It was one of many posters that urged ordinary citizens to buy war loans, which the French government sold to help finance the war effort. The artist's signature, V. Prouvé, places it among the lithographic posters produced during the final year of the war. Its appeal rests on a simple idea: those at the front were fighting, and civilians could support them by lending money to the state.
