A glass negative dated May 24, 1922, carries the name Anna Maude Hallam, though that title comes from unverified data the National Photo Company recorded on the negative or its sleeve. The firm, based in Washington, D.C., produced a large body of portraits and scenes of city life in the early twentieth century. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Streaks and small blemishes are visible, the result of natural deterioration in the original coatings on the glass.
