Numbered 281 in its series, this full-sheet lithograph was printed around 1895 by the Calvert Lithographing Company of Detroit, a firm that produced bold, colorful sheets for sporting and commercial use. Boston's National League club, then known as the Beaneaters, was a regular contender in the early 1890s, and posters like this one helped carry team loyalty beyond the grandstand. Worth noticing is the vivid color typical of 1890s lithography, which turned a simple promotional sheet into a lasting record of the period's baseball culture.
