A glass negative of a churchman identified only as Mgr. Barlassina, the name taken from caption cards that the Bain News Service attached to its plates. Bain's agency, founded in New York in the early 1900s, supplied newspapers with news photographs of politicians, clergy, performers and street scenes, and its glass negatives were often made quickly for same-day publication. Because the name rests on unverified captions, the sitter's identity and the occasion are worth checking against other sources before relying on them.
