Two names, Cidman and Tsianna, make up the title, but the Bain News Service recorded them on the negative or its caption card without verification, so who they were is still uncertain. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, which holds the glass negatives of the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Because the record offers no date or further description, the most useful way to read the image is as one example of the agency's working output, made for quick sale to editors eager for timely pictures of people and events.
