Drawn for the British magazine *Punch* by Bernard Partridge, its longtime chief cartoonist, this cartoon takes up the Czechoslovak problem as Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and French Premier Édouard Daladier faced it in the spring of 1938. Pressure from Germany over the Sudeten German region of Czechoslovakia was rising, and London and Paris were weighing how hard to press Prague to yield. The print is a photographic reproduction of the drawing, and its caption information, recorded decades ago, has not been independently verified, so the cartoon's exact subject is best confirmed against the original *Punch* issue of June 1, 1938.
