An angel blowing a trumpet, its banner reading "Murder," stands beside a hand of God that waters a sprouting oak, with the letters "CII" concealed in the Royal Oak. The image alludes to the tree in which the future Charles II hid after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651, and to his restoration in 1660, eleven years after his father, Charles I, was executed in 1649. Probably dating from the 1660s, the engraving pairs its allegory with a descriptive poem and historical notes, a format common in British political prints of the period.
