This print, published in the May 1, 1775 issue of the *Westminster Magazine* and placed opposite page 209, shows King George III alongside a carriage and an abyss, a pairing that makes the ruler's course look reckless. The engraving appeared just weeks after fighting broke out at Lexington and Concord in April 1775, when the dispute with the American colonies was turning into open war. Satirical images like this one were a common way for London readers to follow and argue over the government's handling of the crisis. The mix of etching and engraving was the standard method for cheap, quickly produced magazine illustrations of the period.
