Edward Everett, the Massachusetts orator and statesman, is the name the subject index gives first for this 1859 sheet music cover, which carries the title *Honor to Washington: A National Ode*. Published in Boston by Oliver Ditson & Co. and lithographed in color by John H. Bufford, the piece ties Washington to the Declaration of Independence, liberty and peace, the themes the catalogers also list. Everett spent much of the 1850s lecturing on Washington and raising money to save Mount Vernon, so the cover reflects the broader memorial movement of that decade.
