Printed in color by Dollard in Dublin, this 1916 notice contains no pictures, only text urging men to join up "for the period of the war." It was issued by the Department for Recruiting in Ireland, and it appeared the same year as the Easter Rising, when enlistment was a contested question in Ireland. Its chatty tone, which invokes your pals and mocks the Kaiser, shows how recruiters tried to frame army service as a personal, social choice rather than a grim duty.
