Titled simply *Hoover fishing*, this glass negative records the president at a pastime he enjoyed in his free hours. Its date is an estimate drawn from neighboring negatives, placing it near the start of his term, which began in March 1929. The plate came from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed officials and public life for decades, and it shows the streaks and blemishes typical of aging glass coatings.
