The car leaving the White House carries President Calvin Coolidge and Mrs. Coolidge, with Senator Charles Curtis of Kansas, on the drive to the Capitol for Coolidge's inauguration on March 4, 1925. Coolidge had taken office in August 1923 after the death of Warren G. Harding, and this ceremony marked his first full term as president. The photograph was made by Underwood & Underwood, a commercial news photography firm that supplied pictures of public events to newspapers across the country. Its record is based on an old caption card, so the details are worth checking against other sources.
