The caption attached to this glass negative names the sitter as Adm. Cameron Winslow, but that identification comes from the Bain News Service's own notes and has not been independently verified. The negative is a small-format plate, five by seven inches or smaller, from George Grantham Bain's New York news photography business, which supplied newspapers and magazines with pictures of public figures in the early twentieth century. Because no date is recorded, the image is most useful as a starting point for researchers tracing naval officers and the news portraits of that era.
