The New Municipal Building, which stands at center and Chambers streets in lower Manhattan, was one of the city's largest civic projects of its era, bringing many municipal offices under one roof. Its design by the firm McKim, Mead & White pairs a classical facade with a tall central tower and a broad arch that carries the building over Chambers Street. The Bain News Service, a commercial photo agency that supplied pictures to newspapers, documented such civic landmarks in the early twentieth century. The title on this negative is recorded as unverified, and no date is given.
