A small 1837 etching titled "6 cents. Humbug glory bank" mocks a worthless-looking paper note and carries a joking signature crediting Martin Van Buren as its engraver. Anthony Fleetwood copyrighted and published it at 89 Nassau Street in New York, the same address as his "Capitol Fashions" sheet. It satirizes the banking turmoil of the late 1830s, when the Panic of 1837 brought bank failures and fights over paper money. Andrew Jackson, Van Buren, Thomas Hart Benton, Amos Kendall and Reuben Miles Whitney, all tied to that dispute, appear among its subjects.
