Issued under the name of the Banca Italiana di Sconto, this 1917 color lithograph by E. Lionne was designed to promote Italy's wartime financing. Italy had entered the First World War in 1915, and the government raised much of its war money through loans sold to ordinary citizens. The poster pairs soldiers with a father and children, linking the purchase of bonds to family and national duty. At about 127 by 98 centimeters, it was a large format suited to public display on city walls.
