Get a move on, old man!" is the line that gives this 1915 color lithograph by Harry J. Weston its character, a recruiting poster aimed at Australian men during the First World War. The phrase is casual, the sort of thing one mate might shout at another, and the poster uses that familiar tone to nudge men toward enlisting. By 1915 Australia had already sent volunteers overseas, and the Gallipoli landings that April brought heavy casualties, so recruiting drives leaned on both pride and urgency. The poster's subject headings also list war casualties, a reminder of the losses behind the call to arms.
