The record gives this glass negative only the title "Lady J. Hamilton," and the Library of Congress notes that the name is unverified, taken from information written on the negative or its caption card. The name may point to a woman of that name in the early 1900s, or it may be a mistaken label. The famous Lady Hamilton, Emma, died in 1815, before photography existed, so she cannot be the sitter. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of news photographs made by the Bain News Service, which supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century.
