Angels and sprigs of holly make up the whole design of this Christmas Greetings card, a pairing typical of the seasonal motifs printers relied on around the turn of the twentieth century. Holly's evergreen leaves and red berries stood for endurance and cheer through the dark of winter, while the angels carried the blessing and goodwill the greeting expressed. Cards like this were mailed in large numbers during the postcard boom of about 1900 to 1915, when a short note and a picture could travel for a modest stamp. Its filing under health and beauty is somewhat unexpected, so the card is worth reading for the wishes for well-being it carries.
