The record gives this glass negative the title "Safety parade" and dates it to December 1, 1922, though the National Photo Company's own title and date are unverified. The company, based in Washington, D.C., produced a large body of street scenes, public events and civic occasions in the 1910s and 1920s. Traffic safety campaigns were a common subject in that period, as automobiles were becoming a regular presence on American streets. The plate shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coating, which affects some of the finer detail.
